LESSON 40
TOPIC:The Good Samaritan TEXT: Luke 10:30-37

MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 22:39b “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

TEACHER’S OBJECTIVE
1. To teach children to be kind to others.
2. To teach children to love others as themselves.
3. The saved child will demonstrate love to a person in need this week.

CENTRAL TRUTH
Show love to others.

INTRODUCTION
Introduce the lesson by teaching the children the following song:
Show love to others
         Helping others is the way
         To show God’s love everyday
         Show love to others (3x)
         Whoever they may be
Jesus in me helps me be
Kind and good to all I see
         Show love to others (3x)
         Whoever they may be.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
1. Jesus used a story to show what God’s love is like.
2. A certain man traveled from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of thieves, who
robbed him of his clothes, wounded him and departed leaving him half dead.
3. A priest glanced at the injured man and passed by.
4. A Levite stopped and looked at the man, and then passed by.
5. A Samaritan had compassion, took care of the injured man’s wounds, and took him to an
    inn to be cared for.
6. The Samaritan paid all costs, left money, and promised more.
7. The Lord Jesus used this story to teach us that if we truly love God we would show God’s
    love to others.

LIFE APPLICATION
From the lesson we learn three principles about loving our neighbour
1. Lack of Love is often easy to justify, even though it is never right.
2. Our neighbour is anyone who is in need.
3. Love means acting to meet the need.
Wherever you live, there are needy people close by show God’s love to others.

CONCLUSION
If we truly love God we would show God’s love to others.

CHALLENGE (SAVED)
As a child of God, if you truly love God, will you show His love to others? Ask God to help
you notice people around you who are in need. God will give you the power to love them.
Look for practical ways to be of help each day (1 John 3:18). Next week share ways
God helps you to show His love to others.
